Old Eel Pie and Mash Restaurant, Market St

While walking around the Regents Canal area of north London I came across this 100 year old restaurant (Cookes) which specialises in old fashioned east end food like eel pie and mashed potato.

I didn't have the guts to try the eel pie, but had a beef pie and mash with parsley gravy to sample the fare - it would have been rude not to

Notice the spoon and fork. Traditionally they used this instead of a knife with this sort of food. I also desaturated the shots slightly as a kind of homage to its age and tried to create a kind of wartime look and feel without going the whole way and making them black and white

The decor has remained unchanged since the thirties...but luckily the waitresses are a slightly younger vintage

Hi Nigel,

Lovely pictures and delicious ladies (or vice versa). I see that you and I have something common in the way we see details in a given situation (i.e. composition) and I am truly enjoying looking at your pictures.

Cheers,

Hi Nigel,

I am interested in the pictures that show the natural rhythm of the place. The women are doing what they do and the work is done on that violin string.
