Rana (My better half) has come back from a visit to her mother at Alwar (Rajasthan) and has given me this description of the scene in the painting:
The procession in the painting (which is not on glass, but perhaps on the plaster of the wall) depicts the “gangor puja”. The lady at the head of the procession is carrying Shiva and Parvati (the divine pair) on the head. Queen is sitting in the palanquin. The maid at the rear carries the bunch of banana leaves as a fan. This is the ritual where the divine pair is being carried to river for holy ablution. The ritual is performed on the 16th day after the festival of “holi”.
