Shah, you have basically ruined what is an interesting photo of a suburban sprawl. Did you get tired with it, or what? :)

Shah, I don't think the use of selective color adds anything to your picture. The photo is an interesting picture of urban sprawl and as such has something to say. I don't think your colorized version says anything about that.

I bet that Paul and Charles expect me to also complain about this image. OK, yes, it's a bit hammy and perhaps somewhat adolescent.

But I like it as an expressionist-type of image. I've no idea if Shah had such deep intentions...perhaps not. But just look at those buildings amidst that landscape. You know well that that landscape is numbingly drab, even in color at cusps. I've no idea what color those block apartment building actually are but Shah has accentuated their physical arrogance and outlandishness with garish color. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the developer of these building wouldn't have applied just such an effect if he could have gotten away with it, hoping to quickly pack tenants craving distinction in a bland landscape.

So as a photograph used to express an opinion I think this actually works pretty well. I even like the general composition, which has a settled feeling. A series of such sore-thumb images, if well done rather than just re-done or over-done, could be very interesting.

Paul: think of this as a work in over-amped conceptual contrast rather than luma or chroma contrasts.

Hi Ken,

I have got a sneaking suspicion that this is the actual color of those buildings and that Shah has just desaturated the rest. If so, it goes to show that sometimes reality is more absurd than our own imagination, lol.

Cheers,

I think the same! The picture has been cleanly separated, the color from the rest and there are no other joins in the pixels I can see.

Still, mechanics aside, I would like the picture more if I was introduced to the thoughts behind it and if I knew there might be siblings. A one off decoration might be fun but I'd be interested where this belongs.

My feelings, also, Asher. Is Shah trying to walk some path similar to Robert Adams....or did he just find a cool plug-in?

Shah...let's hear from you now.

@Paul Abbott
Thanking you for your comment. Since long long time, I just wanted to see these buildings like that. I climbed a big mountain to get this pic. I'll tell u why.

@Charles L Webster
Thanking you too Mr Charles. I am an amateur photographer and I think, Offcourse this picture says a lot. U only need to see from my eyes. And not only that. U need to be on that mountain to see that. LOLL. OK. I will tell u what the picture says. Please keep reading below.

@Ken Tanaka
At the moment when I saw ur comment and about to read it. I was thinking you too will write something like Paul Abbott and Charles L Webster (Thanks to them. they made me write about the small things i see in this pic).
But you wrote something totally different and talked my feeling toward this pic. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT.
I climbed that mountain and tore my 1 Shoe. And when I got down back, I was a mess, smelly, sweaty, thirsty and wearing a bottomless shoe. Next time I will never forget a packet of tissues, water, and pair of good strong shoes.

@Cem_Usakligil
What you guessed, is so near to the fact of this image. in reality, these buildings are colored as the same colors u see in the pictures. But the colors were so fading, like disappearing from the begining. So, saturated the colors to see it glow. I... Thank you for ur comment.

@Asher Kelma
Thank you for ur comment. This place situated in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. A city dwells and growing from the middle of mountains. This city is like any other sophisticated city in the world with every essential facilities for living. The only differences are you will not see lot of trees as it's dry here (most of times), peoples don't care building (buildings) on the mountains as u see in the photo.

@Ken Tanaka
Thank you once again for your another comment. I liked it so much.
In real These buildings were built colorfully. But not as colorful as u see in the photo above.
Please see the original picture below. Its not the same picture but it's similar to the one i posted above. In the original, note that the colors seem so faded like disappearing. I've been looking at these whenever I passed beside them since nearly last 10 years. Whenever I looked at them I felt bad for them. And said to myself "It's so Unfair!! Why peoples built them with fading colors?" They were built in the middle of mountains and urban small houses on the hills and beside that it's 5 star international hotel. I wished to see these buildings with their colors glowing and attracting everyone passing by. Since 10 years back I imagined them as colorful as today you see in the pic. When I was working on this pic, called it "Painting my Imagination".
I really painted this long time ago in my imagination and that day got the chance to capture and modify them as I wished. I desatured the other things around it because wanted to attract ur eyes directly to them without delay. I didn't want ur eyes to search in the rural areas and look for more pros/cons.
So, here atlast I "PAINTED MY IMAGINATION". In it's original colors, nobody even notice these 5 start hotel buildings. But I am sure if they were colored as I wished, they had gained so many praises. In our lives so many small things (goals) come and go. No one wants to ask about those small things and they r ignored. With the help of dream and determination we could bring changes to enhance those small things and make others look at them like so big things. That message I like to deliver through this image of imagination.

What I did in Photoshop:
1) Upper Layer: Original desaturated
2) Lower Layer: copy of Original saturated same image
3) With the help of (Eraser Tool) (E) on the Upper layer, deleted the desaturated building area to reveal the saturated (colored) building on the lower layer.
4) Later merged the two layes together and saved them as JPG.

Mistake: I saved the edited image over the original one. Now i don't have the original one.

That's all. Hope I was clear in my exressions.

Thank you guys.
