I'm currently in the US, visiting my son and family in Seattle, and we're spending a few days in Hood River, Oregon.

I'll post some more pics when I get home, but here's one of Mt Jefferson from Mt Hood (60 miles, maybe more). I'm not sure about the colours as I'm using a borrowed laptop.

That's a magnificent image. I would peronally prefer a crop at the top, but other than that it offers great atmospheric perspective, with a surprisingly clear view on the most distant layer. It's that unexpected clarity that intrigues and lifts the image far above average.

I've not been there but now you have really convinced me to add this to my itinerary. I love the layering of the blue and the asymmetrical composition. I'd look at this with the top cropped to exclude the first long horizontal cloud on the right and then double that to free the picture of the upper sky distraction and release the energy.

Yes, the image does benefit from cropping as Bart and Asher suggested.

Not taking anything away from the image, I'm sure it must have been spectacular to see firsthand.

I've been struggling with just the same thought, and come to the conclusion that it's futile to try to represent a 600ft waterfall or 11,000ft mountain with a small rectangle of pixels.

Instead, here are a series of shots taken through the car windscreen as we headed for the Cascades on Interstate 90. I hope I've somehow captured some of the growing excitement as the mountains got closer.

I like the trio of images. Unless one has a special vantage point, the whole distinguishing feature of pics, this is a great way of giving us the experience. I wonder how this might be n B&W as one could use a filters to give a greater contrast in the landscape.
