St. Lukas in Munich

Inspired by Paul's thread on the Sagrada Familia, here is a different type of church architecture.
It is St. Lukas in Munich, the last protestant church belonging to the style of Historicism in Munich.

Michael Nagel: St. Lukas - Vanishing Light

Michael,

This view across a wide glistening river at night a lit up complex monumental and venerable old European architecture is a treat for everyone! It's in a special class with the sight of the Royal Palace over the waters of the Danube in Budapest or the Notre Dame, although at eye level, across the Seine in Paris.

The detail of the blue green lit "water fall" below and way to the left, perfectly and respectfully balances the colossal Cathedral presence. It''s really just a focus of light to gently stop the picture falling away from the force of the Cathedral's dominance of the scene.

The bold diagonal golden bar positioned over the right lower corner is another stabilizing structure but also serves as a simplified starting point from which to enter the world of the picture. (Such stratagem, (by intent or otherwise, is also used in many of the paintings by Magritte, instead his frame was a door opening or column.)

The high elevation and skyline and rich color makes this pictures special. This is a fitting introduction to invite the reader to your closer work.

A first glimpse of the interior

Michael,

My first thought was that this is "The Bride's View" as, at last, with everyone packing the pews, she enters the church and head, modestly bowed a few degrees, begins her long march forward to metamorphosis from a girl dressed up to a bride. This is what she sees and then she takes quick glances up and around and continues her life changing journey to be sanctified in marriage!
