New UK based photographer

Hello everyone.

I was recommended by a fellow photographer, Antonio Correia, to join this forum, so here I am.

A little bit about myself. I've been a photographer for about a year and a half now, and have recently graduated from my Canon 300D to a Canon 1DS MKII. I thought that if I was going to upgrade, I might as well go all the way.

I've set myself a website up http://mrw.smugmug.com. I'm always looking for comments on my photos there, so if any of you have a spare 5 mins, and would like to comment on my images, please feel free todo so. That's how we all get better, is by learning about what works well, and what we could've done differently. Many thanks in advance if you do decide to look.

I mainly shoot landscapes, wildlife and floral, but I'll try my hand at anything really. I have done a few weddings, few martial arts events (by the way I'm also a 2nd Dan Black belt in Tae Kwon-Do) as well as parties and other events.

I sure as with all yu other photographers, you've all gone through that stage of trying to get your feet on the ground, and build up a name for yourself in your area, which I'm trying to do now. I'm glad to say that things are going well.

I've won a few competitions and got some of my work published in the local papers. Migh not be up to a top notch Daily Sun level, but I'm happy with it. I enetered a calendar competition at my works, and won with all 3 of the enteries that I submitted. I was really happy wih that, and of course had to buy a calendar for all my family :)

I'm alway looking for different competitions to entr, but a search on Google does'nt bring much out, apart from the different forum competitions. If anyone knows of any comps in the UK, that are open to keen amatuers like me, the please let me know. Either email me on mwheeler04@aol.com, or message me on this forum.

Anyway. I really look forward to being a part of this great forum, and look forward to the help and support between all the members.

Many thanks for reading, as I do know I waffle on a bit.

Regards,

Martin W (MRW Photography)

Hi Martin,

Welcome. What part of UK? wrt competitions, all I know is that AP has an annual portfolio thing, and often mentions other comps., not always after the event. I had a look at your web site. I think if I were wishing to get trade from there, I would leave out most of the family thing, and just present one aspect, else it comes over as a bit like 'Jack of all trades, master of none', and I'd just put up a few of the very best images I had, with my full business address and a land line phone number, which my kids don't use.

Best wishes,

Ray

Welcome Martin.

I enjoyed your website.

BTW, the wide angle fisheye of the huge wheel in London that wan't turning, had Chromatic Aberation which can be fixed readily in PS or DXO. Sure you knew it, just in case anf ofr anyone else I'm mentioning.

I appreciate you joining us and hope you post some of your pictures here. You have done a lot!

I hope lots of brides are choosing you with that portfolio!

Ray,

I think you would say the same about my site if/when you will see it.
And I' sure you will have a look at it, if you please.:)

Feel free to criticize but please, wait 15 days before I get back to you, because tomorrow, we are going to India.

Cheers. :)
