Hi everyone. I found this board yesterday and posted already, but I didn't see this Introduction forum until today. I'm on the wrong side of 40 and I do sports, news, macro and general photography. Other interests include motorcycling. Currently using Nikon but about to switch to Canon after over 20 years with Nikon.
This seems like a friendly forum, so hopefully I will post here often.

Hello Steve

Welcome... I'm interested to hear that you're into Macro photography. I am about to take delivery of the Canon EF 100mm 2.8 Macro USM Lens tomorrow. I'm into landscape particularly of Scotland, but until I live there, I've just taken the decision to specialise in flower photography for now. So from tomorrow I expect to be pretty busy with flowers and my new lens, I'm really looking forward to trying it. If you're interested I'm in the process of developing my website www.jansmithphotography.co.uk I'm sure that some shots with my new lens will be on there within the next few days. Have a look if you get a chance. Regards, Jan

Steve,

I'm delighted to welcome you here. This is a great home with a lot of sharing and great attitudes. Everyone loves their gear but we're especially interested in the picture itself delivering on the promise we make to ourselves before we even press the shutter.

You may be on the wrong side of 40 but not really. This is a great age. Even if Canon cameras and Nikons didn't exist the Pentax resurgance and the delivery of fine new lenses by Leica shows the resilience of photography to time and the positive attitude of MFRS.

This is a great time for photography as we have better tools that can allow us to photograph more at zero cost and thus experiment with new techniques.

Janet,

I visited your website and your nature pcitures. That I expected.

The discovery of your pictures of musical instruments was a surprise.

Kudos!

Asher

Hi Asher

Thanks for your kind comments, yes I've done some musical instruments from a local music college, sadly they were all either corroded or a bit battered which made it just about impossible to get a nice clean image of them, so I posterised a lot of them as a way of dealing with all the corrosion and "pock marks" which were too extensive to be able to retouch. Under the circumstances I was quite pleased with the results. My new macro lens has just been delivered, I've just put my battery on charge ready for a lot of photography later today - I'll be in touch about the results later in the week.

Thanks for the welcome folks. I visited your web site Jan, some great work there. You are obviously very good at getting the most out of lighting.

Hi Steve

Thanks for the compliment, lighting is a constant source of annoyance to me, preferring to work with natural light.....I use reflectors as much as possible and occassionally fill in flash difused and bounced, but it's a constant difficulty, so thank you for noting that.
