The Arch/Ind forum has been quiet for a spell.

Just for fun, here's a photo of an old vertical lift bridge over the Illinois River taken a few weeks ago.

There are lots of rivets, wires, gussets, and cables here. All of them were vital years ago, but today they are just so much rusty junk.

O.K. Tom,

There's a lot there! I wonder if you have blow ups of portions so we can see the detail of the rusting patina, the shadows and shapes.

In the meanwhile I've been attached to some of the iron work. You're great at finding textured objects with interesting form and power.

I'm impressed with your choice of subjects!

Asher,

Thank you for the comments. Every time I visit that bridge, my 600mm f/4 has been left at home. Next time I'm there I'll make a point of hauling the howitzer along to get some detailed views. If the weekend rain clears by Monday, I'll make a point of doing so.

Great idea Asher, thanks for the inspiration!

Tom

The truth be known, Tom, I'm a little envious of your treasured finds! You ought to be on my staff, but I can't afford you! So good hunting with the 600mm. Take a stout tripod and a strong assistant to schlepp it for you! This structure is so rich, the long lens is going to isolate some very impressive compositions.
