Symmetry

Just an old shot, but one that I think captures the symmetry of the California Poppy, Eschscholzia californica, reasonably well.

I am not particularly fond of flower shots as they get repetitive without pollinators on them, but they still make for good compositional practice due to their random placement in nature. But I do like images of their symmetry. I like that when capturing symmetry one is left with the challenge of taking organic natural forms and trying to find their clinical idealized form.

Any thoughts or images welcome.

This is a great subject you raise. To my mind, bringing out the assymetry of the setting of the flower, showcases its symmetry.

I think that the dimensionality in my rendering makes the natural order confront the senses and we do not see this as merely beautiful color but as imposing natural form.

My attempt is dark.
