Bilbao Guggenheim

Hi all
We just ended a touristic visit to the Bilbao Guggenheim (and Bilbao city as well!).
We do love this place and monument, it's all about magic…
As for our last trip to Venice (http://www.openphotographyforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4636&highlight=venice), and for the same reason I came overthere with the Sigma 12-24…
The "only" difference is that the lens was mounted on the brand new 1DS3… no tripod, wide open, 1600 ISO

Here's one :

the rest can be seen here: http://clarisorganisation.free.fr/diapo/Diaporama_Bilbao/index.htm

They are all night shots as, during the day we did visit the museum itself, and on the contrary as most US museum, you are not allowed to take any photos… so I left the camera at the hotel…

Hi, Nicolas,

Exquisite, both the building and the photo.

Hi Nicolas,

I'm not just amazed; I'm thrilled! I have never seen photographs of the Guggenheim Balboa before like this. I did see a small snapshot and thought, well, they haven't seen Frank Gehry's Walt Disney Concert Hall by the Music Center in smack in the cetner of Los Angeles.

Your pictures show the beauty of this ultramodern design coming up from the water. I was surpised that this immense artistic structure was built in the existing city and goes under a bridge. The pictures you took are at night. Did you do any in daylight? Was there snow there or is it warmer than that?

Thanks Asher

it was a cloudy cold day. Just no light. And as I stated in the original post:
They are all night shots as, during the day we did visit the museum itself, and on the contrary as most US museum, you are not allowed to take any photos… so I left the camera at the hotel
and took some snapshots with an Iphone, you can see them here:

As for the story of the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum, you may read a summary here:
http://www.rockwool.it/sw14213.asp

On the Museum itself:
http://www.guggenheim-bilbao.es/visita_virtual/visita_virtual.php?idioma=en

We saw in 2003 a magnificent Calder exposition (http://www.guggenheim-bilbao.es/sec...osicion_claves.php?idioma=en&id_exposicion=31) (watch the video!)

And in 2004 a fantastic Rothko exposition (http://www.guggenheim-bilbao.es/sec...ioma=en&id_exposicion=28&imagen_destacada=180)

The "problem" with the Bilbao Guggenheim Museum is that you may get there for the exhibition itself or just for the building itself!

In the permanent collection, "The Matter of Time" of Richard Serra is absolutely beautiful…
