Sue - planting seeds

I grabbed this quick shot (5D 35 at f8 or 11) on Sunday afternoon. Sue is oftern stretched out by the demands of looking after our two (lovely) children, but this was a few minutes peace she managed to gain.

I'm not a big fan of B&W but this is a nice snapshot. You can see quite a lot of detail.

Is this a M/F lense? If so are you using a plain adapter or focus confirm?

Ron, no this is the Zeiss zf35/2 with an ebay adaptor. I'm actually going to try another I have as infinity focus is arriving too early (the adaptor is too thin). I use the focus confirm chip, but handheld it can be a bit marginal, plus it will only confirm reliably at wider apertures and then stopping down can lead to me/subject moving!

Anyway, here is a 100% crop from the frame around where I tried to focus.

Everybody deserves a little quite time to plant some seeds! Nice of you to capture this of her and it's a nice subtle conversion...gives a soothing vibe by being in black and white.

A beautiful moment shot with sensibility...

There are just two little details which could have made an even better picture :
- Flower pot in the left corner is cut, you should have framed a bit lower
- B&W is a bit too light for me, i would have prefer more contrast and deeper blacks

But that's just small details...

Cedric, thanks for your comments. I have the first frame that includes the whole pot, but I overexposed slightly. Interestingly in this version I cropped a small fillet from the top of the frame to remove the sky - seeking to give a sense of enclosure to the space in which Sue is working. This echoes the crop to your 'two men' shot I think.

Hi Mike

I like the mood of this very much and can identify with Sue's need for a bit of peace and quiet, I'm often found in my own garden doing similar things, for similar reasons....

Nice moment you caught.......(did she know you were shooting her?)

Hi Janet, thanks. I've just seen this comment. This was the second of two frames I shot, so Sue was aware but ignoring me:) She does that if I've got a camera... or gurns!
