Quick & dirty pano of San Francisco Bay & Alcatraz

Here is a follow up on my "moon over SF" thread. Some people have asked to see more details at street level so here is a daytime shot from my hotel room. The main artery is the Powell Street, the tower to the right is the famous Coit Tower.

Just joined two horizontal frames in PS.

Hi Cem,

I can see you are continuing to enjoy the wonderful scenery of the Pacific USA! I do like this picture and I just altered the window size so that everything below the central clump of trees is cropped. That removes the area that starts with the central salmon colored rectangular building. The picture then transforms to a strong landscape.

If you use photoshop to make the tall building vertical then that will complete the picture.

You must have so many thousands of photographs! I wonder how many pictures Ansel Adams took in his lifetime?

According to the quote I read at the SF MoMA yesterday, while enjoying a few of his pictures hanging there, I saw that he made some 8000 in total. I have surpassed that number already, but you know what they say about quality vs quantity ;-)

PS: I know the verticals are not OK, hence the title "quick & dirty"

Hi Cem,

I have taken the liberty of looking at your image in B&W. I hope you don't mind. I added a sun since it was really there!

Hey Cem, I have not been to SF since a young boy, afraid I would not know where anything was.
I am really enjoying the fun that you are having while on this trip, thanks for sharing!

That skyscraper on the far right is turning into the leaning tower of Pisa!
LOL, nothing is fully vertical as Asher already pointed out. Again, this is me posting while on vacation lacking the tools and the capability of showing you an end product. Quick & dirty it is indeed.

Cheers,

Hi Asher,

I am glad you have shown us this concept. The tight crop panorama aspect seems to work well although I would not crop it that tight. The B&W, on the other hand, does turn this into a picture which is not fully in line with my intent, if you don't mind me saying so :). I prefer the color version personally. Even then, the B&W might work if it is not that dramatic and contrasty. I'll play around with the idea when I get back home. Thanks for the effort and the concept, I appreciate it :).

Cheers,

Hi Cem,

When you get back there will be sleep! We are looking forward to so many new pictures.

My B&W meddling is just an attempt to show what further might be lurking, hidden in a picture. It's that latency we can explore with benefit. Not that anything I suggest is better, even valid. Just I have a conviction that making pictures can include continued creativity and recomposing with endless lack of restrictions when one gets home.
