Hi Stuart,

I like the unusual macro, it takes a short while to get a sense of scale. However, I think it would work better after a horizontal flip. That would put the nail's head in the lower lefthand corner, and force the eye into the image from there instead of out of the image (for left to right readers).

I have to assume they do.

An empirical piece of evidence was explained to me in a marketing class. A major supplier of baby food products designed a billboard with 2 images of an infant. The image on the left showed the (somewhat poorly looking) baby before switching to brand 'x', the image on the right showed the same (well fed and rosy looking) baby after the switch. Unfortunately, the billboard had the opposite effect in the Arab world, sales dropped, until they switched the images ...

Thanks for the comments , my reasoning behind the placement of the nail head is that it acts as a stop for the eye following the crack which if flipped horizontally would indeed allow the eye to fall out of the image on the right side . I do understand your argument and have viewed it in that manner but personal preference also plays a part . Thanks .
