I notice that the press release quotes "software based dust mapping / removal" in addition to the on camera ultrasonic. I wonder if that means an update to DPP is in the wings.

Isn't it what RG (and many others) mentioned?
Later, the Dust Delete Data can be applied to the picture using the Stamp tool within v2.2 of Digital Photo Professional (which is bundled with the camera).
