View Full Version : Question for French photographers

November 26th, 2008, 11:11 PM

I will be in and around Paris from the 21st December to the 5th January and was thinking of picking up a 5dMkII, assuming they will be on sale by then. Would you suggest a specialist like, for example, Objectif Bastille, or one of the larger stores like Fnac or Surcouf? Please feel free to recommend an outlet that you know is "user friendly" for want of a better description.

Kind regards, and thanks for your time.

Objectif Bastille is a very good, competent and competitive dealer. There may however be a dearth of 5D2 which have only just arrived.

Hi Ian
I would go to Objectif Bastille or Fnac.

I would avoid Surcouf for aftersale service not really reliable IF you don't live close to their store…

You may also try the Canon shop at Photoprony (53/55 rue de prony in Paris)

Here is the list of official Canon dealers in Paris:

But I'm not sure that Paris is the cheapest place in the world to buy Canon cameras ;-)

Thank you Ralph and Nicolas for your replies.

Yes I agree that the shelves will not exactly be sagging with 5D Mark II boxes! Also, I have read elsewhere that the French dealers' early consignments will consist only of 'kits' with the 24-105 f/4.0L. Oh well... we'll see what OB has in stock when I get there.

Why don't you send an email to some selected (by you) shops, they may reply and tell you what delivery they expect! And in the same time you could ask their pricing…
If you are a pro, do not hesitate to ask for a discount…
