I have the "older" 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG MACRO (I think) for Canon and I was happy with it until I sidegraded to the Canon 24-105mm which is also excellent.

The current Canon 24-70 is superb. Extremely sharp. I am not familiar with the Sigma 24-70.
