default internet browser Mac 10.4.6

On the Macbook Pro, I am unable to locate a standard internet browser. I am sure I am missing something very basic. On my older mac, Powerbook, internet explorer was loaded as a default as I remember.

I am able to connect to the net fine and download updates, just can't locate the broswer.

Thanks

The default browser is Apple's own Safari. The icon in the dock is a compass.

IE for Mac is effectively dead, thank God.

The Mozilla project has spun off a few (free) browsers worth trying, particularly Firefox and Camino. I'm posting this from Camino.
