Hi there from Ireland

Hi Jean Luc,

Your name sounds French but the surname seems Spanish and your location in Ireland adds beauty, castles and great beer. Also we have Georg Baumann there. He shoots mainly landscape with the Sinar M and the Olympus cameras.

I visited your website and am immediately impressed. I'll revisit especially for your platinum prints. Why do some platinum prints come out brown? Is that the added gold?

Do you print with high gloss paper or does the salt need to get soaked into an art paper?

Anyway, we're really looking forward to your posts!

Asher

Hi Asher,

Yes as you noticed French first name, Spanish surname, living in Ireland and born... Casablanca! So I feel a bit like a blow in everywhere I go and it's fine.
Concerning platinum prints the brown aspect of the print depends on the proportion of Palladium Chloride and Potassium Chloroplatinate. The more Palladium Chloride present in the coating solution the more brown is the print.
It is a hand coated process and you can use many types of paper. The one I use mainly is Bergger COT 320 which has an interesting mat "velvety" finish.
Hope this answers your question.
Best wishes

hi again Asher,

Sorry not have answered the other part of you question. Concerning the platinum process, you coat your paper with a brush or a rod. The paper does not need to soak in the salts solution like salted prints.
Hope this help.
