Removing background from images

I am finding this too hard, I googled and found some companies that do this sort of thing, has anyone tried them? Is clipping path the same as deepetching. http://www.deepetch.com seems to be one good one, I also saw http://www.rapidclipping.com/Photoshop_clipping/home.htm and http://www.ezyclipping.com. Has anyone had any experience with this sort of thing. My catalog has over 300 images of jewelery and jackets with fur fitted on manequins due in two weeks, all shot on a blue studio background. Do I require alpha channel masking? Can anyone help please?

Alex,

I see your a new member. However it seems that you accepted a commercial job, and are now in trouble. This is a very easy job, providing the lighting was correct. There are many talented photographers and retouchers which can perform the job you need.

My recommendation hire a retoucher to perform the edits you require.

If you think I have no sympathy for you, you'd be correct. I have lost several jobs for product shots to some 'person' who bids a job to low. Usually they end up delivering substandard images to the client. Reason, because they don't know what they are doing.

Hire a retoucher!

Lighten up...

Bill - The guy's just asking for some help. It's what this forum is all about. You draw an awful lot of conclusions and assumptions from his 2 line post.

Alex, sorry I can't offer assistance but I'm sure there's many on this forum who might. Anyone out there willing to help?

By the way, welcome!

Not assuming a thing. And I do agree with you about helping someone. However, he has posted the exact same question on another board on Nov 12th saying only 2 weeks. He received answers and now comes here 3 weeks later with the same question. http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=144896

From his post he sounds like a amateur who accepted a commercial job, "photographing products". As I said now in trouble trying to get anyone's help get him out of the hot seat. If it were 1 photo I wouldn't be this hard, but 300 excuse me! Hire a retoucher!!

Hi Alex,

Bill is Bill! There's something right there, perhaps but the edge is not my way!

Yes, we've all been in deep water at some time and we should learn from it. It's really very simple. Send 4 images to each of the guys and look at the results. They charge next to nothing!

Could you post here the 4 images you would choose and then we could see what happens to them one way or another. The places usually do a great job. I myself might use them since my time is more expensive. If I could put a brake on the passage of time, that would be better, but until then, always look at how you spend your time.

Did you explore the links you mentioned?

And BTW is this for your own portfolio or a job you have done for a client? If it's the latter, then at least next time you will be in a position to include these normal costs in your bid.

Good luck, I'm really interested in this task you have and how you deal with it. We'd really appreciate if you make this the place where you tackle the dilemma and make your pictures how you need them to be.

Asher

I support that as well Alex, if you post the 4 images we could maybe understand what the difficulty is and propose a reasonable workflow with maybe an example.
colour keying is maybe one quick option as a initial step to retouching.
you might even attact offers.

Alex,

I have temporarily taken the unusual step of putting your registration with OPF on hold.
The only way we have of doing this is banning. I did write to you a PM but you did not as yet reply. This post of mine and the "banning" will be removed once you clarify what your intentions might be, so we can differentiate sincere need for help versus spamming. Your question has been other websites and you have not responded to the help there either! You even went off-line this evening without replying to 5 posts!

If you really do have this job, tell us you want to work on it and we'll try to help you as best we can!

Asher
