Here's shot looking down at the clouds from near the summit of Mount Hood in Oregon. There are actually two other climbers in the picture about a thousand feet down, but you'll really have to look hard to find them.

Howard,
A fantastic shot! Did you shoot in raw? I am looking at the pic on an uncalibrated monitor and with that it looks like there is a blue cast. In any event if you are processing raw with Adobe CS3 or lightroom and would like to look at an alternative rendering, try dialing the blue luminance channel down to add contrast to the sky and a liitle definition to the clouds. -Nat |

Regretably, I shot this about six years ago before I was shooting RAW. Good suggestions on the blue balance; I'll play with it a little. The blue seemed appropriate at the time. It seemed to match my body color after nearly freezing in the storm that preceded the climb to the summit.

This is meant, by destiny and esthetics to be a fine B&W picture.

As shown in this shot from nearly 23,000 feet, mountain climbing pictures tend to be blue. You don't feel as if that adds to the "feel" of high and cold?

Hi mike, if you are going for the blue, great! But then get back for us the detail nuances in the clouds and snow. Do you have this magnificent image in RAW?

I'm afraid I don't have it in RAW. When climbing peaks above 6,000 meters, weight becomes a major issue so I typically only carried a (drum roll please) . . . Canon Elf. The picture is scanned.

Re scan for the highlights!
