Obvious beauty. However I wouldn’t know that the bird was not yellow plumed, because I am not familiar with species that most birders might assume we can recognize them.

Just looking at this, (as a pretty poorly-informed, yet avid nature lover), I wouldn’t have easily noticed that a bird was even present. It perhaps that’s nature’s plan.

Then, after study, I realized it was so easy to distinguish the beautiful lithe neck wrapped around the yellow flower.

That it the oddity of nature. We can be so easily distracted and confused. Well hopefully the raptors on hunting patrols, looking down from high, are not a hell of a lot smarter ornithologists that I appear to be!

Thanks Asher, these are fairly raucous and belligerent birds to their own kind and other nectar feeders. They spend a lot of time chasing other birds away from flowers.

And it looks like we can see a bit of the red wattle. Their defense of their flowers is a trait shared by the hummingbirds of the Americas and it is unusual as very few bird species defend their food sources. A wonderful photo catch by the way.
