Thank you, Asher! I'll give your suggestion a go.
Tom, Midsummer bonfires are an ancient Nordic tradition (and, according to Wikipedia, Irish, as well. I didn't now that). It is quite controversial, as you point out. We burn them when the day is longest (sun doesn't practically set at all!) and don't burn them in the winter when we certainly would need them for the light!
