A Jackie Kennedy selfie!

Here is a "selfie" (mirror mode) by Jackie Kennedy (with JFK and his sister Ethel):

Provided by Michael Beschloss via Twitter on Huffington Post

Can anyone identify the camera? Looks like a TLR but I don't understand what seems to be the grip.

I think this is the most adorable picture of Jackie I have ever seen.

This was described as being "60 years ago" (which would be 1954).

Best regards,

Doug

This version of the same picture is slightly clearer:

(from this site, also here, where they date the picture to 1954)

Handles were used on TLR at the time, here an example:

Or she could be holding the strap:

Thanks for those links to better versions of the image.

Yes, that might well be. What baffled me is the black object apparently in Jackie's right hand (on our right in the photo).

Thanks.

Best regards,

Hi, Jerome,

This Avedon mirror selfie:

Richard+Avedon+and+Sophia+Loren,+New+York,+1966.jpg

Richard Avedon and Sophia Loren, New York, 1966

from the second site you cited shows a very similar situation. Jackie's camera may well have had the same type of handgrip on its right side.

Best regards,

Doug

I think the dark object is mostly just shadow caused by her hand. If you look with enough imagination, you can see a bit of the focus knob right under her index finger.
