In Perspective, Fun: M.I.T Students Upstage NASA with Canon Camera, cooler, balloon for near space exploit

Asher Kelman

OPF Owner/Editor-in-Chief
This is fun! US students show how simply one can photograph the planet from near space using every day items: a beer cooler, a warmer, an inexpensive Canon digicam and a cell phone rigged up to a helium balloon!

Read more here.

Now if they would only orientate the camera better, they can do some serious science, mapping or espionage! Their approach could be used to provide very inexpensive mapping of diseased crops, water resources or even stubborn embers in a forrest fire.

Thanks for the early morning chuckle. That was just too much fun. I love how you can see the remnants of the balloon as it drops.
