Charlotte,
I've been waiting on this set to see the reaction. Here we have a sort of unfit between personal family pictures, art and what public impressions might be. The pictures are delightful and I love the joy. I also own Jock Sturges work and I'm no prude. However I have reserve about perfectly proper private family pictures where little girls seem presented in a way that might be fodder for pedaphiles trawling for pictures to trade. Of course it's unintentional!
The issue to me is that naked ness of a pre-pubescent young minor is valued highly in that horrible circle. This is especially true when the girl is caught in a manner reminiscent of glamorous or sensual adult women. For sure there's nothing illegal here and only happiness and beauty. Still, we're a nation deeply scarred by the murder of little
Jobenét Ramsey in 1996. We're not healed yet.
So, perhaps, this triangulation of art, seeming sensuality and family should be kept private. It's the appearance of such sensuality that can be harvested by perverts and so inappropriate and should be private. It even can put the child in danger, god forbid! This is not a rebuke or any attempt to censor. Rather it expresses the reason, perhaps, just perhaps, why there have been zero responses to 3 fun family pictures. So you can respond, "Jock Sturges and other famous photographers have puplished photos of children naked". But remember, he had a very, very expensive defense paid for by his publishers when the FBI arrested him for child porn.Worse, a Grandmother several years ago was arrested picking up pictures from Walgreens who had alerted the police to pictures of here grandchildren in the bath! Not until she lost all her savings, and I believe her home too and pleaded "no contest" and branded a sexual predator for life, was the persecution stopped. This shows how wounded the nation is.
I just want to share this view with you. It's, likely, I believe, to represent the reactions of others too who have not posted, perhaps because of reticence to be confrontational. All this with the greatest respect and affection and respect for your artistry,
Asher
