I find its ability to do background separation, even within a few centimeters only, quite amazing...

Klaus,

Yes, this is an amazingly beautiful picture. The flower presents itself from almost nowhere!

I wonder how this compares with other lenses like, for example the Canon 50mm or 85mm 1.2L lenses, wide open? ....or one of your other MF lenses with wonderful bokeh?

What's your serial number - IOW, is this one of the earliest versions or a later model which is said to be sharper and easier to focus.

Thanks Asher, but it is LOMO, not (Romanian) IOW. Its serial no is 92xxxx, so it is made 1992, and has a rather modern green/magenta multicoating.

Its performance is quite similar to other projection lenses I have, namely the single coated, excellent series of Carl Zeiss Jena Visionar lenses.
Here one which has nearly identical focal length (84mm), but is f1.6 Visionar f1-6 84mm Set

Klaus,

I now realize the excellent sharpness at the plain of interest and soft fall away is all that's needed and easily takes precedence over and minor intrusions of distortions or chromatic aberrations. This is far better than the flower images I get with the Zeiss 55mm 1.8 at 1.8. I still wonder what the 85mm Canon 1.2L would deliver.

This is such a pleasant offering to us with a delightful spherical landing platform and enough of the pollinating bee to complete the magic...........and I see yet another bee on the lower left. Nice!

Are you happy your purchased this compared to your 100 mm Russian 1.8 lantern projection lens?

Thanks Asher. Well, I bought too many such lenses as I was so intrigued by their performance, so I have quite an assortment and no dud so far ;-)
