What burg-ruin is that on the right? I wonder if it is one I visited.

This is a HUGE change in your field of view!
This is my first view of the remnants of the Palatine division of Rome at its zenith. I am so pleased to be able to witness a sample of the countryside that so many princes fought over. Now it is only evident as a most peaceful and pleasant scene.
What was so important, is now forgotten! We just see the glorious blanket of autumn wrapping the hillside!

Indeed, we live in a beautiful scenery here in the Palatinate which has a special micro climate, some 3 degrees warmer than the surrounding areas, and indeed it has always been over the many generations been in focus of the greedy rules to make it their own! Doug, that castle atop city Schriesheim (on right side of the Rhine river) is the Strahlenburg ("castle of the rays") built 1235, destroyed in the 16th century. I had a house there and raised my kids for some 20 years. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schriesheim#High_Middle_Ages

It could have been rather Hambach castle which is closer to Landau / Neustadt (on the left Rhine side)
