That finch is a happy present for us to wake up to. The buds give a sense of the season!

Shape is for function and color is for signaling. This bird gets A+ for both!

In addition your selection of the two diagonals, (the axis of its body and the opposing line of its beak from the turned head), makes the picture engaging and balanced.

So you get an A+ too!

Yes, Doug Herr is particularly accomplished as a “birder”. I really think attitude and extraordinary patience is essential to this art, and enthusiasm alone is not enough!
