How do we address Nudity in titles to give folk a warning?

Asher Kelman

It would seem that postings in the Glamor or Human Form As Art should be adequate warning to forum readers rather than adding a label to the actual posting.

Frankly, Mike, I was surprised that glamor does indeed include nudity and can even go to strong erotica and soft porn. It's a pulsating art form it seems with a variety of tastes and expectation. I guess my view was naive. I was thinking of boudoir and glamor that's on some magazines where the imagery is strong but not "indecent" if I may use that uptight old fashioned word. I expect nudity in artistic figure studies erotic or not. It was a surprise that overt nudity appeared under glamor. So if I can be so ignorant, and I shoot nudes, then surely others can too.

As Daniel points out, we use our computers in a public place and it's considerate not to have onion breath, (I happen to love fresh red onions and cheddar cheese) when sitting a plane next to someone who can neither stand onions not escape! It's the same with nudity. It's of course one's personal right to look at anything one wants. However, it's a kindness to others to be aware that they may not want to be confronted with what we deem fun or artistic views of nudes.

I would not want to use an X as that is really classifying the work in a derogatory way. So for now, either it should be in the title or we'll add that prefix. One or the other, just as a courtesy.

I hope that's a reasonable approach. I'm open to any PM offering alternate options but for now, we have the right approach.

One computer I frequently use to browse the internet is on a coffee shop I own and people can see whatever I have on the screen. Obviously testing customers tolerance to nudity is not a good idea, so I do my best to avoid such images in this computer. For me, any warning sign of nudity helps.

PD, In this same coffee shop I have a book with a photo on the cover of an indigenous woman with her breast visible. Nobody cares about it...

Well said

I think Daniel said it perfectly. We've always tried to be civil and courteous here at OPF.

That's all we are trying to accomplish is allowing a choice to have a little modesty at work or around the kids.

Since the link didn't work (for Doug), may I offer another? (For smile purposes only. Photo by Robert Barclay.)

I guess I should move this to the wildlife forum since it seems to be bird picture, LOL

Hi, Rachel,

Fish! That's a fish face!
It just goes to show the futility of trying to classify the works here!

Thanks for the cute picture.

I assume you were naked under that sweater and jacket! And the university officials probably had no idea!

Best regards,

Doug

I have not had a chance to read through this thread but wanted to say one thing...When ever i post a nude in a forum i but in the thread title "nudes" or something so the person knows before they open it....Speaking of which i still have some artistic nudes of Cabrea to post when the forum is at a point where i can upload them directly from my computer......

They are many other options including free hosting services… And you wouldn't have to rely of Asher's kindness and wait for him to use his precious time to load your own pictures!
Imagine if every member of OPF would ask the same…

Personally, I just read the subject under Recent Posts and not the forum a post is in 98%+ of the time. We also need to consider non-registered visitors for whom the content of the various fora are unknowns.

some thoughts,

Sean

I have added a prefix, "Nude:" ...

All,

I have changed Nude to NSFW which solves all the moral quandries in this thread that my scan of it revealed. This removes the question of whether these fora should be viewed from work (they are), removes the Children, Cats, ... from the equation as the subject itself is not necessarily a Nude and leaves us with Not Safe For Work which is the only underlying issue left.

my thoughts and some action,

Sean

"NSFW", Not Suitable For Workplace, replaces "NUDE" but what other word is better?

Sean,

I back your decision until we get a better one. Let me share with you that I considered it before. That idea, NSFW was put to me but I had no clue what it meant! That means a lot of folk also don't know, unless I'm much more lost than everyone else, which is worth considering, LOL!

I don't see this as a moral quandary but more of a social issue. Every one knows what nude is one would think, but then, once again, folk could argue that it's not nakedness, per se, but whether or not it's also "demeaning" and or "lascivious" and so forth. We'd like a word that works at least in Europe and hopefully elsewhere too. Let's not change this again right now but if anyone had new words which do a better job with a wider audience, it will be appreciated!

Thanks

Asher

Hi, Asher,

Oh, I had thought it was "Not Suited for Work"

I have a grandson who seems to be that.

Best regards,

Doug
