This new camera has two especially remarkable features. One works full time to rebuild green channel information form the Red and blue Channels and so add 1 EV to the DR and reconstitute detail in the brightest areas. That's the novel technology that Ricoh engineers have developed that is promised to make the CX1 an advantage for digicam users.

The other feature is the ability to take two pictures in rapid sequence and fuse them together to expand the dynamic range again. Altogether, Ricoh claims 12 ev of dynamic range which, if substantiated, would be very attractive to a lot of pros and enthusiasts alike.

The camera has a 28-200mm zoom lens, motion blurr technology, of course, 4 frames per second continuous shooting and can focus in macro mode down to 1cm! The sensor is 1/2.3" CMOS with 10.3 MP. Apertures from 3.3 (wide) to 5.2 (telephoto). With Step Zoom set, option of seven fixed lengths: 28 mm, 35 mm, 50 mm, 85 mm, 105 mm, 135 mm, and 200 mm) Lens Construction is with 10 elements in 7 groups (aspheric lens: 4 elements and 5 surfaces).

Please MFRS, give us RAW files too!

Surprisingly, for still images, there's no RAW format: Recording File Format Still Image JPEG. Nevertheless, with a focus range of 28-200 mm this is an attractive camera. So here's something I want to test, if only for the DR!

Good News, Ricoh has updated us. If you are interested in this new camera the release date is now March 13th not May 13th and the initial post has been so corrected.
