This is an Araucaria on my property. They are gymnosperms and considered living fossils. During the Cretacious when the planet was universally warm they blanketed both Northern and Southern Hemispheres. They predate the existence angiosperms or flowering trees. Today they are confined to warmer climes around the world. There is evidence suggesting that the huge Sauropods developed their long necks to reach the new foliage of these very tall trees. A poor photo but illustrative.

Do they also predate the Aspen trees. I don’t think these are flowering.
