Sean, busy wedding photographer and photojournalist, has great relationships with lens resellers, MFRS and colleagues, so he has access to much equipment before most reviewers.

Sean Reid said:
Late last year, I published two related articles that might be of interest to photographers who like to photograph people in public places. The first is called, "Street Photography", Part One and the second (Part Two) is called Photographing Strangers. Together, these articles look at the nature of this kind of photography, its connection to work in other mediums and some of the pragmatic issues involved in doing this kind of work. These two new essays join previous general essays on photography that include Correct Exposure and Other Myths and On Small Sensor Cameras. If you haven't ever read the two older articles, you might find it interesting to read them now as they both look broadly at photography and hopefully will be of interest to many photographers, irrespective of what kind of camera he or she uses.

Sean is not a Pixel Peaking or MTF obsessive guy. However, he has a unique sense of how a lens draws the grey scale, how it distributes and separates the tonalities and what predjuduces it has in transmitting color and dimensionality of images.

A subscription to Reid Reviews is a bargain. Certainly if you use a DSLR and fo landscape or achitectural photography, he has distinguished himself in describing the characteristics of many fine alternatives to the available Canon WA offerings.

Of course if you do any film photography, especially B&W, you already know his work with Leica cameras and more recently the RD-1 Epson digital camera, a marvel now eclipsed by the Leica M8 rangefinder camera, the reincarnation of the Leica tradition in a marvelous photographic instrument.

The subscription page is here and the price for a new subscription is $32.95. The renewal page is here and the renewal rate is $29.95 through 1-15-07.

Part IV of his ongoing review of the M8 digital camera is now online and of importance to Canon shooters, Sean Reid is soon to publish alternatives to the Canon WA lens line up and expeirence with Canon T/S lenses in comparison with Olympus alternatives.

So if you want to treat yourself well for the new year, here's a fine, worthwhile but an expensive luxury that will provide you a lot of enjoyment.

Now are reviewers perfect? No, not if they are photographers first and nerds second! Sean does his best to share you his insights, mostly done to get the most out of his own work. So if you are looking for the view of a photographer, this is where to visit.

Merger Magic or sign of trouble? Pentax is being merged into Hoya. This combines some of the greatest technology in a vast array of vertical markets covering health care where for example anyone in your family who ever had an ENT exam of a colonoscopy (compulsory after age 50 or before with a family history of polyps or bowel disease) most likely benefited from Pentax fiberoptic equipment one way or another :) ! Of course we all know about the famous role Pentax has played in photography (remember the revolutionary Pentax Spotmatic SLR with the SMC Takumar lenses!) and of course the whole line of great digicams and the weird * name and current impressive DSLRs including the least expensive professionally sealed DSLR, the K10D.
