There was a time - 60ies - when oysters were exported from Setúbal to France where they were much appreciated. They were transported by road, refrigerated.

This a small and niche industry restarting after the fall of a couple of industries in the river Sado.

I also like oysters. :)

I did not know about Setúbal oysters. France produces 90% of the oysters in Europe and I am presently next to the main area of production.

I know there is a story about the species.
As far as I remember, French's oysters are "different" from Setúbal ones. I mean the species...
I know personally a producer and exporter to... France !
His site here. Exporsado !
