Seam carving for the rest of us.

Some time ago Shai Avidan and Ariel Shamir made quite an impact with the demo of their image resizing technique named "seam carving". You can see a demo video on the web site http://www.seamcarving.com/

Well, there is now a web (Flash) based tool use can use to try it out on your own images (limited file sizes). Its very slow, but very cool too :)

Hi Kris

I battled about an hour to enlarge an image but it is incredibly slow (despite a huge DSL bandwith)…
They also they that due to Flash, they can't handle bigger file than 2800 pixels on the longest dimension.

Not an option!

This to me is revolutionary and will be of immense help to photographers. We already remove spots, artifacts, dirt, debris and don't think this is really altering the image. Here getting rid of people is "seamless" so to speak and looks much easier than preparing a mask and filing in background. In fact, this whole approach might even make masking more sophisticated.

I like the potential for creative work where the time to achieve complex changes could be cut!

I can't wait to get hold if a copy!
