Genius of Photography

For those who may interested, a new BBC 4 series started this week "Genius of Photography".

Part one looked at making images permanent and traced the work of Talbot and Daguerre. It then followed the success of George Eastman bringing the brownie to the masses and then examined the work of Lartegue, Muybridge and Kertesz.

What interested me the most was how vernacular photography had so much influence on the development of the medium and how it created significant rifts between pros and amateurs of the early 1900s.

Also there was some almost surreal crime scene images taken by the NYPD forensic teams.

Part two , I believe will be looking how Photography impacts upon documenting war.

Its well worth watching and my hardisk recorder will be capturing every episode!
