There's lot of texture there but the image is now, to me at least rather flat. I see this as a play of the detail of the fabric and the attention that the round light tries to achieve with its strong form.
In fact, original picture has been shot with Tri-X film, i scanned it in RVB mode and i got this strange brownish colors that i decided to keep. But original idea was in B&W indeed, not so far from your proposal. ;o)
