using Text

Hi Hi,

this is one for those with an open mind...

I use text - in images - lots of binary.. photoshop and illustrator and fireworks seem to hate lots of text... by lots think of a 20/20 @ 240 dpi filled with binary from top to bottom / side to side at 8 pts...

apart from cutting the binary and pasting each segment any ideas !!

the correct solution wins - a bottle of whisky !

Hi Mark,
I'm not sure what you mean by PS, AI, etc. "hating text".
Is it a performanace issue (time to load, speed, etc.)?
How are you moving the base text file between programs?
Is the background image of binary text extremely large?
Also, once you've created the binary background in PS is it a raster image or a vector image?
I'd give it a try- rasterize the text (or vice versa) and load the file to AI.
Any difference? Let me know, I'm curious if this will help.

I tried something with a random image, wondering if that what you were aiming for...I experienced some problem copying and pasting long lines of text from MSword to PS (after let's say 200 characters it seems that text vanishes, so I had to do it little by little) but nothing really worrying...( maybe that just that my ram is a bit weak, I don't know)




was just too lazy to make it 8pt But I tried typing a few lines and then copy the layers 10 times and adjust them on the layout and it works without any slow motion. But it have to be repetitive words.

I've made an attempt and yes it was tediously long- 3/4hr, but i think I can action it, have a couple of cuppas, oatcakes and then return when the job's done...

I like this one best.

The ones covered with strings of 1's and 0's (we can't be sure those are meant to be binary numbers, of course) don't do a lot for me. It always seem like a conceit for a promo shot for a science fiction movie of a few decades ago (like those titles in a faux MICR alphanumeric typeface)

Hi Mark,

It seems like Rasterizing a block of binary characters, and making it into a Fill pattern seems to be the most efficient solution. You would need to figure out the text size needed before rasterizing, because you can't simly change the size and spacing anymore (although it's fast enough to redo).

Guys - I think i have the issue nailed

when I try the above repeated - with no spaces PS does not register it - it apears blank - with spaces ps can do it no problem... I will delete th spaces in ps for a whole page and check if this works... i dont want the text to apear as colums...

where do I send the whisky !

Well, as it is not a number (that we can tell), we cannot really render it into binary, which is a numbering system.

Perhaps you mean putting it into ASCII, or ISO 646, or some flavor of Unicode, and then presenting that encoding in its binary form. Note that if encoded in ASCII or ISO-646 (its international equivalent), each character would be notated in seven bits.

Thus, the first "word" of that passage would be:

1010011 1110100 1100001 1110010 1110100 1101001 1101110 1100111

On the other hand, this passage:

"Four hundred seventy-three",

if treated as a decimal number in English, would be, in binary:

11011001

thanks for the input... I will lay my cards on the line.. i want a translation thats not a spoken language.. but people recognize as having some meaning.. binary is a system that is not limited to computers - but most languages.. have a binary cataclysmic sense !

a symbol can mean many or few depending on the orientation - it becomes binary... if I dont make sense its the whisky talking

don't know really...for example if I copy/paste the text in the "reply" message box, there's no spaces, even with the zoom @ 25% and the box enlarged (using chrome) that I can show the text in 2 or 3 lines...then when I hit "reply" the display shows regular column separated by a space ( you can see in my post). You might try as a test.

Worked it out - paste into word doc the correct size - save as pdf - open in illustrator save as psd open in PS -all 101010111 land in layers !
