Default Street Portraits

Here are the two shots that I like the most from my recent attempt to do some portraits on the street.
This was during a parade in Panama, in a very sunny, hot and humid day... a typical day down here.
I wanted to put these in Asher's Grab Portraits Challenge but I used flash.

C&C are welcome!

Hello Ruben

I like both of these very much, the first one shows clearly how hot it must have been - she looks absolutely baked! Her silghtly quizzical expression and steady gaze engages us....

The second one - what a gorgeous little girl with the most beautiful eyes and smile, I like the crop and off-centre framing.

Both very nice - thank you for sharing

Thanks so much for your comments Janet, I´m glad you like it! You are right about the first girl, she was in a marching band with the sun in her face, I had to ask her to turn to take the pic. The other girl was sitting under a white umbrella that softened the sunlight.

Great shots Reuben for on location portraits, they both look like they were set up. The first image is my personal favorite of the two; the eyes of the parade girl are wonderful and captivating and coupled with her facial expression the image locks your focus. Well done.

Default Bill, the Sheriff

This is Bill, a friendly gentleman I met in Hell´s Kitchen, Manhattan. Bill is a retired police officer and he proudly wears the badge given to him by his late friend, sheriff Bill William.

Ruben,

Both children are delightful but this one I like the most. The lighting does not write itself into the subject, but just does a splendid job of revealing a child full of joy and trust. There are four people, it seems lining up across the way in front of her; reflections in her eyes. I find the lighting very effective and open. What did you use? Was there any modifier on the flash?

Asher

Hello Asher, so glad that you like these, thanks for your always enlightening comments. Indeed, there were a few people standing around me when I took this pic. I had a home made sort of "Pocket Bouncer" attached to the flash which I used to add just a little sparkle, but the main soft, wrapping light comes from sunlight passing through a white umbrella she was using to shelter. The light behind her came from the same sunlight reflecting off the pavement (she was sitting on a low chair). Later in PS I took off the flash reflection from her eyes because it looked just plain bad.

Hello Ruben. I have stared at these 2 Photos for a few days on and off. Now I realize why I am drawn to them the way I am. Life! Full of life, vigor, youth, dreams. To me #2 signifies this much much more than
#1; which is excellent in its own way but for me misses the spark that is in the eyes of #2. The aspirations and the innocence of a child. This is what makes it for me.

Regards.
