Paul,

This is like you to catch the reflections of rectilinear structures. You have my attention and interest. I can appreciate the many ways in which alternate black and white bars can be presented. I am not fully orientated to the work. This is complex, but that's fine as long as you find some siblings, brothers and sisters to show in a series, as this does not immediately seem to go with you other photographs of buildings. You might consider making, with this first one, a new class of your pictures and populate that class and then we will better understand what you are doing. So could you try to hunt out some more, such as this? This, in itself, might lead to some extension of your body of work. I'd love to see where you take this approach. A "one-off" might be too lonely a thing and may not sustain itself!

Asher

Asher, I guess these sort of photographs 'will out' in time when and if I find 'em. I do agree with you about forming a portfolio of similar images, I always try to keep my eyes peeled for this sort of thing. I do have another below, taken in Canary Wharf, London.

Personally, for me I do like the image above as a standalone photo. I think it is quite interesting to me in trying to work out what is happening with the planes and lines. I also like the false intersection it presents, too.

Cedric, you are right, more contrast is needed in the shot above. The blacks are slightly off.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for addressing this idea of a series. My belief that the body of work of an artist provides internal language to help best appreciate what going on and separates happenstance from concepts powered by the artist's imagination and honed to make it express his/her sensitivities and inner world. One image might work, for sure, but the worth is usually seen as part of a body of work, since each resonates and recalls to some extent experience had with another, but different work in that series.

It also becomes a challenge for your own self, a sort of "personal trial and inquisition" for which you create the temptress, conceive the sin, become the the accuser, the magistrate, torturer and redeemer.

This will do too! There are multiple crucifixes. These cannot be escaped!

In fact I like it more than the first, as it's simpler for me to try to meet and get to know. I will, I promise.

Thanks, Asher.

Giving oneself a project to shoot certain kinds of photos, is always a good thing to do, I agree with what you say.
