Default Share you favorite Apps: This one turns display into a language lens!

Just point the back of the iphone to a menu in Spanish, (right now) and the words will appear instantly in English without needing an internet connection! It's as if the iphone is a magic lens for translating.

Read about this Word Lens and look at the short video. It's an amazing app that means we will be able to eventually translate anything from Chinese menus to which sandy private beach is designated for what!

No ne has remarked on this. It's perhaps one of the most fascinating and practical applications of the iphone beyond making calls!

Imagine being able to point to any newspaper, menu or traffic sign and reading it in one own language!

Hi Asher,

I don have an iPhone, so I can't judge from experience. However, the application seems to be one in the category broadly coined "Augmented Reality". Other applications are, say you are walking in a city like Ansterdam, and you let your phone look at the buildings / monuments / statues / landmarks / real estate in front of you, and you will get information about what you are looking at.

Things like year of construction, architect, price, today's specials, other useful background can be made available, and a whole industry can be made collecting such data, and subsciption services can be sold (and paid by phone).

Here are some examples:
