Art from Found Photographs Sadly, works get forgotten. A good eye can bring new life if one has humor, knowledge and vision. The used pictures must be either yours, from the public domain or legal rights of usage having been obtained. Be prepared to explain image sources without being defensive or mad at the moderator. This does not diminish your art, just helps with historical provenance.

Thank you- such an inspiration to be there and encouragement as well- all artists are so friendly- I learn a lot

theme was paintings and I wanted to make an overlay that could look as though it was painted in any medium- the picture was used as a metaphor for the titles flowers in the night-I used moon flowers and jessamine lots of work in layerying this to make a painted look-
and I always leave a reply or 2 when I come fyi- a lot of times I never even post-
thanks again- Frank is very cool- ps "Not leaving the Planet just yet"

Hi- hey just hangin' with some outstanding artists trying to learn more is all- art is such a passion and using photography to delve into the overlay work is a awesome creative outlet for me-
Thank you- I need to be in here more- and am going to try to do some straight portrait work again-

Great questions!

Transparency Overlay for me is a process of layering photographs on top of photographs color on top of color shadow to light - textures, crop and more crop-layer and more layer a lot of visual knowledge basically -

So, the name is actually René-Frank Granaada. That explains why google could not find it. That leads to another question: what is the "Advanced Vision" group about? Photography or painting?

Could you please tell us a bit more about the "Advanced Vision" group? Sure it does a bit more than have a facebook page.

In case you wonder: I am not interested in becoming a member. I would just like to understand what it is about.

I guess one could look at this as "artifact" because of compression- but in my overlay work a lot is compressed in order for the end result-
if I do print them nothing will change in the original work-

Charlotte,

by artifact I was meaning
"the expression ‘artifact’ is sometimes used to refer to experimental results which are not manifestations of the natural phenomena under investigation, but are due to the particular experimental arrangement."
it was just a thought -

it seems to me that the work you show is not about the images of the objects by themselves but the connections and context you surround them with/in - there makes a space that allows the reader to imagine - to make their own connections - out with the object of the burn... thanks for posting this intriguing work...

cheers

I didn't know which definition you were referring so I thought of digital compression which that is used as well-
I am so glad you came back with your explanation

I love to create a thought and feeling by putting together photography and art and lots o other things- it gives me such freedom-

this is a good idea of what I do-

"the expression ‘artifact’ is sometimes used to refer to experimental results which are not manifestations of the natural phenomena under investigation, but are due to the particular experimental arrangement."

I am so deep into overlay work now I haven't done any portrait work in a long time-

Charlotte,

This one is new to me. It has the elegance of something from the BBC's "Masterpiece Theater" and I can imagine a great mansion house, servants, affairs, scandals and financial ruin. However, I do not, as yet, get a feeling of witchcraft, although one extra item/motif could do that.

I do like the work.

Asher

I loved Masterpiece Shows- Caligula especially-

The Katyee Witch was made like this for the woman's particular personality- each of these I made was with this in mind- their interests etc. every witch is always something different about them- not all witches have the common "evil" destination thing going on- just my take of course
and thank you so much so always appreciate what you are thinking about my art-

Just how beauty can fade
or how angels fall from the sky in a child like descent-
as we all fall - sort of a metaphor for beauty in all its aspects-this is a childhood memory as well close to fairy tales when we age we understand that there is no fairy tale and "angels fall"

Actually nothing was hand drawn all are photos upon photos-
I use letters I find online and incorporate them in some of my work-
the rest or all of it is over-layed using different textures on photos of photos crop shadow shade light/dark on and on-
instant insanity but I love it!

Annika VonHoldt has been a good friend of mine for about 13 years I knew her before her first book was published-- she's a great gal describes herself as "a doberman with lipstick"
No I wanted to do a witch overlay of her- I made the choice of pictures from her album- and came up with this work- She writes mostly mystery novels- gothic type stuff-

Hi Charlotte,

A note that your work is remarkable and well disserving of the success I've seen noted at this site. I'm sure much more success will come your way!

I haven't seen anything quite like this before. What were some of your influences, both technical and aesthetic?

Tracy

well that's a tall order-

I can say for sure the photographer Imants Krumins
started it all
but I do have an art background

the long story you might fall asleep at your computer-
needless to say I started first with portrait work 9candids) because for me it had that element of surprise!
then after seeing Krumins work I became insane-
so I went for my own voice in the work which is not at all like Krumins
put my own spin on it-worked for almost a year or so to perfect it and it still is always an ongoing perfection-
thank you so much for your kind words- I did look at your landscape web site only had time for that "landscapes" BEAUTIFUL!! work-

Hi Charlotte,

It’s great when inspiration comes to your door step, so to speak, and politely says, “Here I am. Come with me. This is a direction you will enjoy if you are willing to try.”

Doing portraits takes unique skills. You have to put the subject in a very comfortable place before they reveal themselves, *and then* it takes an instinctive sense of timing to make the capture. *And then* to take the captures into the delicate areas you take them requires something considerably greater.

I don’t know Imants but will look into the works. Re the long story of influences, perhaps you’ll share some if it on occasion.

Keep following your voice as you are in a remarkable arc. Just in case no one has said it before, remember to take a few days off on occasion.

Thank you for your kind comment! It touches me that a gifted person such as yourself likes my work.
