Studio, Portrait, Still Life, Lighting Equipment and Technique Continuous and Strobe Lighting. (The Sun is considered continuous!) Great ideas are really ten a penny! Technique in setting up the subject is, of course, essential. However, the ability to bring out form, texture, tonality and color is where the skill in lighting provides all the keys to engraving one's ideas on the delivered picture.

Default The GP

Hi Guys,

Oh boy, I'm having so much fun with this scary stuff! Decided to use the flash on this shot as I'm a bit fed up with the limits of natural light...it can be so flat sometimes!

The shot was lit with a strobe fired through a softbox onto the models face and a strobe witha homemade grid was fired over the models shoulder illuminating the items on the table.

Any comments or critique, as ever would be more than welcome!

A nice big version can be viewed HERE

Thanks guys!

Hi Ashik, thanks for the comment. The above shot was taken with a Nikon D300 with a 50mm prime...

Hi Matt,

I like trying simple setups. The feeling is that we've gone back in time to the Spanish and Portuguese masters with the deep sienna darkness feelings to the picture. How far away did you place the main flash, and what does GP mean?

Asher

Hi Asher,

The main flash was positioned about 2.5m away from teh subject. Re: GP, this stands for General Practitioner and is a term used for Doctors in the UK....:-)

Reminds me of the movie Gangs Of New York.

It's the hair on the arms that does it!
