TEST - embedded messages and quoting

This thread is to help us understand what happens when we quote a message that has an uploaded and embedded image in it.

Douglas A. Kerr: Carrie

This is Carrie at a political organization benefit dinner meeting. She's a military spouse, active in many civic activities here in Alamogordo, and founded an important political awareness group. She is also the chief of Alamogordo's roller derby team, and also head of the local roller derby league.

I'll be "responding" to this message myself to see how this image fares as part of a quoted message.

Best regards,

Doug

This is a "reply" to my prior message. The image is in the quoted block.

This is a second reply to my original message. This time I have killed the quote tags.

Either way, we do not seem to see the image "directly" in the reply message.

More of this later. Time to watch the news.

Doug,

I discovered that:

There are size limits in pasting images into OPF. It seems that up to about 550 kB is inserted as a visible image
but 2.5 MB results in a link instead!

Hi, Asher,

Doug,

Aha! At one point I thought I smelled something like that but I let the thought get away.

And in the original message that link is made an "image" link, but in the quoted message just a link link.

I'll do another test with a smaller image.

Best regards,

Doug

In the original test message, the image was about 290 kB. In this message it is about 139 kB.

Hi, Asher,

In neither case is the image "in the message" as we see it from OPF; it is always a link. But so far, it seems that in the original message, it is an "image" link, but in the quoted message, it is a "URL" link.

++++++

Yes, I see this in the HTML code. In the original message, the element begins:

<imgClass="bbimage". . . .

and the URL in the element is (poisoned):

{htt-p://openphotographyforums.com/forums/attachments/q10905-01-s500-jpg.348/}

But for the link in the quoted message, the element is just a plain reference, beginning:

<a href= . . . .

and the URL in the element is (poisoned):

{htt-p://openphotographyforums.com/forums/attachments/348/}

Best regards,

Doug

Hi, Asher,

....so Doug, is there any new insight or rules you might have discovered?

Well, there are still several mysteries. I need to do some further tests, and then perhaps the mysteries of this universe will be revealed!

Best regards,

Doug
