Just for Fun No C&C will be given: Fotovest meetings in July - Timisoara spherical panoramas

The local photo-club "Fotovest meets each Saturday;
we take some pictures and share experience

and of course have a lot of fun

Let me commend you for having a great get together on July 10th. I can see it went through several generations and we have grandparents and kids, tortoises and kittens. I have taken the liberty of extracting these scenes. Yes they are indeed sentimental, but these are genuine memories what we can all relate to, allowing us to revisit parts of our own history too.

and even lovers at the cusp of fecundity. Sure, it's only a snapshot but it's so strong that we, ourselves understand the meaning beyond the close circle of friends. When we can go beyond our personal experiences and have them be meaningful to others like this, we're on the right track.

Valentin,

As you must admit, I'm an enthusiastic fan of panoramas of the city and landscapes.

However, when it's in whispering distance, where you are reacting to glances and smiles, then we have to hesitate in reaching for the tripod. Here, almost universally, the photograph snapshot is the simplest way of capturing for eternity the fondest memories of our lives. If you will allow this trespass, I strongly criticize you for not taking regular snaaps of these wonderful events too!! You must not let such treasured memories be hidden in a small sphere.

I heard of a rule from a professor in Philadelphia. I call this the Philadelphia Mallet Rule. It says that when the first stone age man invented the mallet, he realized that everything within walking instance need to be hit by his new tool. Be careful as some things require a different approach. :)

The close distances and therefore limited diameter of the sphere in the panorama makes your subjects distorted. Buildings, gardens and landscapes do much better. Here, the intimacy of the subjects is the most important. So perhaps consider the simple picture for these special close up and personal times.

:)

thank you very much for spending the time and extracting the chosen images

I believe the most interesting is precisely the one with plenty of kitten and children. That one it took me about 3+ hurs to process and is not perfect but since isn't a commercial project, I just let it be. I made it from 12 pictures - some repeating the same region so I'd get more details but still there was way too much movement around.

Here in Romania I have to confront the prejudice and phobias of people having their children shot, of themselves, of their pets or property :( given this I became kind of shy to ask permision because if I'd say I am from a photoclub they wouldn't give me any and if I'd say I am with a company and publishing they would ask for money. So I actually can't take candid images even from beggars on the street or just passer byes because I may find in the unpleasant situation that someone gets angry on me.

Considering this I sometimes have the chance to take pictures of our group at our meetings where - of course - all are photographers and understand and share all the problems.

in close portrait the colours are again different
the light in the afternoon gave very profound shadows and I had to made superficial compromises to get this as it is - of course I have used the fish eye lens and the correction is ... the best I could do now

again
THANK YOU ASHER

those are from the meeting we've had on June 19

hello friends smile

on June 19 the fotovest group had the chance to visit several local events and here are the

panoramas I hope you'll enjoy that finally I had the chance to stitch.

the day started with the end of the Olympic cross - a sporting event for the National Olympic Committee and a lot of people who decided that through sport they feel better

(sorry for the stitching errors, I only saw them when the panorama was ready and I don't have time to repair this)

then according to our tradition we have waited for the inspiration and the others to come at a coffee terrace in the Piata Unirii

and - extremely tired and overheated, I took the pictures for a handheld panorama smile from a fountain.

The pictures remained almost forgotten until yesterday when, mobilized by my friend Mark, I decided to give them a try... and discovered the pictures include most of me but my hands - and since I have them, I decided to operate a surgery upon them and photograph them , a little photoshop to balance the red - anyway it is very visible they are s foreign object; nevertheless I believe the result is funny smile hands included there

on our meeting from June 12 we've participated to an airshow.

here is a handheld rectilinear panorama I shot from a baloon

Valentin,

It's a great you have an image to give a taste of the big picture! I wonder if you could get a friend next time to take a snap of your ballon too!

This is one place where a 100-400 Canon lens is wonderful! Air shows are just the place to really put that lens though it's paces.

Valentin,

I really enjoy the different way of looking at things and putting together the rectilinear portion of the sphere and then a spherical derivative too.

Remind me, your pictures are made with some zoom fisheye? These too?

:)
yes Asher and thank you for your kind words; I have used Tokina 10-17 mm for all of them, stitched them into spherical panoramas and then used pano2vr to get some rectilinear (planar) projections; this time some are "little planet" and some mercator plus the cylindrical.
