We get think all improvements come from better chips and finer lenses. However, ongoing work at Stanford University has progressed so far with computational photography, that standards are being established and open source software written. To date there are two principal platforms:

  1. Nokia cell Phones N900: get the Nokia Qt SDK here
  2. The FrankenCamera: here


It seems as if they have already made a graphic user interface. It's available in LINUX, Windoze, Mac Snow Leopard on the computer side. If you have the N900, there's no cost to you to be our reporter at the cutting edge and beyond!
