Rajan,

Where are the goblins and hobbits? This is a place for magic! Did you take pictures to each side? If you didn't then you have sinned as this is one of the most intriguing landscapes ever. This area seems to be a treasure trove for macro photographers too. There mist be such a lot of wonderful subjects to be explored close up too.

Asher,

Yes, it is a wondrous place. Yes, I took pictures on all sides and made a variety of compositions.

Yes, it is a cornucopia for Macro photogs - lichens, moss, berries, wildflowers (the latter only in late Fall).

Luck plays its part too. There was a nice cloud cover that provided diffused light, no rain, and virtually no wind (the famous Icelandic wind gusts are enemies to the photographer). And I had a remarkable private guide who knew exactly where to take me and when to push me to climb through the mounds of lava rock - can be dicey and easily result in broken ankles.
