Icelandic geothermal area in Krysuvik

Hello friends.

I recently took some picture of an Icelandic geothermal area not far from Reykjavik which is in danger of being ruined by the goverment plans to build geothermal plants to provide electricity for foreign aluminium companies. It would be nice if you could check out the gallery and tell me how you like it: http://js.smugmug.com/Travel/244617

Here are 3 pictures from the lot:

I also went for a 2 day hike few weeks ago to an area which has now been sunk by Europe largest Dam and here you can see those pictures if you are interested (galleries 2 and 3 are from the area affected): http://js.smugmug.com/Travel/232865

I am very impressed by the images. what is the group you are hiking with?

So much beauty I'm in awe. You have done a great job. Not only the magnificent but also the more human presence too.

I am so pleased you have shared. What camera do you use for this and what is your occupation?

Asher

Hello Asher.

Thank you very much for your reply and kind words about my pictures.
The group I was hiking with in the second gallery (Karahnjukar hike http://js.smugmug.com/Travel/232865) was an organized hike by 2 women who live near the dam area which were very conserned about the Dam construction and the beautifull area that would be destroyed. My girlfriend and I went with them an other people for a two day hike around the area. The second gallery was a hike on the area that has already been completely flooded by the dam and the third gallery was of waterfalls which have been dried up.

The geothermal gallery is of a place which the goverment is planning to build a factory which will probably damage the area.

I use Canon 5d camera and have few lenses. The lenses I used most in these pictures where 17-40 f/4 and 70-200 f/2.8 IS.

My occupation is a software developer - but I'm extremely interested in photography and travel and I'm hoping that someday I can combine travel, photography and work ;-)

Johann

Well, Joi,

Maybe we'll come to visit you! If we could get a series of local guides, we could have an OPF trip!

What kind of software?

I'm going to pick some pictures and ask if we can ise them for our front page gallery. May I? I have about 40 selected for a fresh series and I'd add yours to the waiting bunch.

Now do you have fall in Iceland with beautiful colors of gold, yellow, sienna in a wide landscape?

Anyway, we'd love you to post in the landcape section. I'm sure your images will be appreciated.

Asher

Hello Asher.

If you come to Iceland - I would be very glad to help out with guiding. I was aboard the Adobe Icelandic Adventure here in Iceland this summer as a part guide part photographer and enjoyed it very much. It was also very nice to meet some great photographers and people on that trip.

Yes, it is fall now with great fall colours. You probably won't see as much fall colours as in America because Iceland isn't that much covered in trees and flowers.

I use IView and Photoshop RAW in my workflow and take all pictures in RAW and convert them into DNG early in the workflow. I read Peter Krouch's excellent book The DAM Book and utilized some of his ideas in my workflow. I have been experimenting with Lightroom and like it very much, especially the Develope section which is incredibly powerful. I used Lightroom for the first gallery but used Photoshop CS2 to convert the RAW in the Karahnjukar gallery.

Yes, I would be very privileged if you would use my pictures in the front page gallery - thank you very much.

Regards,
Joi
