Two halves make a whole

Two halves is an interesting concept and could be followed in a number of ways. Black v. white, two making one complete perfect entity and so on.

One half of a head is always an eye catcher. The young man one pulls our attention to the abrupt right border of the picture. But then in the b.g. the female is soft but seems to be questioning him in some way.

What was the picture like before that cut on the right?
