Set up vs random

Anyone think about some of the differences between some art in regards to how we setup the shot, or for the shot ?

There are some guys who setup a compete shot with people (Gregory Crewdson)
They go as far as setting up the shots like they were movies. Very interesting.
Other guys just find the shot the way it is (Todd Hido) both are interesting work and none is better then another in my eyes.

I actually have no issues with adding a little light here or there to balance out the dynamic range in a night scene, but its really just helping out the shortcomings of the sensor. I dont shoot people in my art persay, but I have to say this guy has good planning and detail.

Interesting work.
