Payson Pond Comparison

Payson Arizona is a smaller town North East of Phoenix and is very pretty. I travel there monthly for sales calls. During a recent trip I stopped to capture some shots and wanted to compare color to black and white. Thirty days previous to this trip, this pond was filled with snow and ice.

Hello Marshall

My preference is B & W, but I used to hand print my own b & w some years ago and find myself more and more drawn towards landscapes in b & w. I would try burning in the cloud detail a little in the top rhs, it looks to me as thought there may be some detail there which a gentle burn could bring out.

I go to the Outer Hebrides very soon, and am looking forward to shooting there with b & w in mind. Thanks for showing these, and reminding me of the possibilities.....

Hi, Marshall,

The B&W works exceptionally well for these shots.

Thank you Janet and Doug. During this most recent visit, the pond was dry, quite the opposite look of these shots. I have been playing around more and more with B/W conversions and wanted to see how these shots would work. I'll look into recapturing some sky detail, thanks for the suggestion Janet.
